Together with our friends of Actief 65+ we have written this article and we hope you will enjoy it.
When you reach retirement age, it is not easy to meet new people. While back in the days you automatically connected with people at school, work or in the pub, it is much more difficult when you get older. However, when you are 65 or older, there are still various opportunities to meet new people. Curious? Read our tips in this article!
Search for sports or hobby clubs
A good way to make new friends is to join a sports or hobby club. When joining a sports club you can improve your stamina while meeting new people. Especially team sports like football or volleyball can provide you a big social network. Not interested in playing sports? Then join another type of club where you can, for example, share thoughts about books you read or your knowledge about cooking or painting.
Book a group travel
Are you looking forward to seeing new places but don’t have anyone to travel with you? Join a group travel! In the beginning it might take some time to feel comfortable, but once you have settled down the chances are high you have some nice traveling companions. After all, everyone there joined the group to travel and meet new people. Look out for a journey that fits you and take the adventure!
Visit the community centre
If you’re more of a person that stays in a familiar environment it could be a good idea to visit the local community centre. In almost every city or town there is a place for people to meet each other and in most of them there are regularly nice activities or courses to attend. Try it once and meet local people!
Connect on the internet
Another good option to connect with new people is the internet. Nowadays, there are millions of websites built to link up with new people. We all know social media like Facebook and Instagram. However, there is more than that. There are some, more unknown websites that are similar, like the application ‘Shine Social Club’, where you can find new people from outside your local environment.
Find a (volunteering) job via Actief 65+
Last but not least, a perfect way to be surrounded by people is by volunteering. Of course, we understand you don’t want a full time job when you reach retirement age, but there are plenty of part time voluntary jobs available where you can meet new people while participating in society. Via ‘Actief 65+’, an employment agency for people above age 65, you will find a job that fits you in no time. Sign up at the website and the staff members at ‘Actief 65+’ will search for your dream voluntary job.
