We are proud to announce that we have a new team member: Dante.
Dante is our newest intern and he has a fierce passion for tech, people and communication. Hence we had to have him on our team. Dante currently studies Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam.

“Hello,
I am Dante Göbbels, an intern at Shine Social Club, and currently still studying at the University of Amsterdam. Since a few years, I know that I want to start my own company, a technology company. Thus, I decided to look for a start-up to work for in the summer and made a list of 30 start-ups in the Amsterdam region, only to stop and think about why I would make such a list at all.
I abandoned the list of companies that I was going to approach for an internship, and instead, decided to write one email as good as possible and be more selective. I wanted to focus on one company that I really liked to work for. Therefore, came up with two criteria that had to be met. The first, the business idea must be something that I truly believe in, and the second, it must be a company at which I believe I can learn a lot.
After discovering a website from the University of Amsterdam for career-related advice, internships, and mentors I found an opportunity I knew I had to take. An internship at Mokum Tech to work on an app that is focused on solving a big problem; loneliness amongst senior citizens. I admired the founders, Alon Ben Joseph & Jonathan Salomon for taking up such a big challenge!
Over the last decades, technology has drastically changed some of the ways of how we live, travel, socialize, and work. With the emergence of the internet, people received new tools to effectively communicate and share information. Social media platforms allow us to stay in touch with family, friends, and relatives living abroad and close by. However, it was mostly the youth that embraced these platforms in its early days. Now, almost all of us use it in some way, and its use is widespread.
The 60+ is and is becoming more and more adept with social media, and this creates an opportunity to use the technology at what it is best: connecting people. By using the power of modern technology to connect in a more traditional manner, by just meeting up in person to do activities that we enjoy, Shine Social Club was an idea that I immediately liked.
I have learned much by working for Alon & Jonathan, and working on the app made me view things from another perspective. It is actually kind of strange if you think about it that so much of our daily products and services are only designed for the younger generation and might not be so friendly in its use when you are a little older. For the design of the Shine Social app, Alon and Jonathan take all the aspects into consideration and really care about making an app that fits the needs of our users of 60 plus.
